Mountain bluebird’s mountain mahogany perch

Siala currucoides atop Cercocarpus

This was the first mountain bluebird (Siala currucoides) that I’d ever seen! His cerulean plumage was unmistakable, even at a distance, as he perched atop of this fragrant, silver-barked mountain mahogany tree (genus Cercocarpus). I could hear mountain chickadees, chipping sparrows, and a scant orange-crowned warbler in the distance as I observed this individual. What a treat!

My short getaway in Northern Utah, USA was tremendously relaxing and restorative. I visited a place I’ve been coming to with my family my whole life, and I’ve really grown to appreciate it as an oasis for rest.
