A Rocky Mountain cutthroat trout’s demise

Nycticorax nycticorax consuming Oncorhynchus virginalis

I was so lucky to see this black crowned night heron (the same individual featured in a previous post) hunting in person, and even luckier to get a few shots of it successfully nabbing and devouring Oncorhynchus virginalis, or some subspecies thereof. This beautiful Rocky Mountain cutthroat trout was swallowed whole by the heron on a beautiful spring day in Red Butte Garden & Arboretum, Salt Lake City, UT.
