My favorite falcon: the American Kestrel

Falco sparverius

Every time I see an American kestrel, I think, “Huh. That’s a weird place to see a robin.” To me, they look like American robins with big bobble heads!

These tiny predators are incredible. Falco sparverius is the smallest falcon in North America, and also one of the most common. Even so, they never fail to impress me.

I was especially lucky to capture this individual showcasing their flight skills as they took off from a sign in Farmington, Utah, USA on 04 April 2025.
